The Tangent is a 2.7 km new road between E19 Mechelen-South and Douaneplein. It is a safe and faster road for motorized traffic. It is located at the rear of Mechelen station and connects the E19, Brusselsesteenweg, Leuvensesteenweg and Douaneplein. The Tangent considerably improves the accessibility of Mechelen.

There is also a tunnel of 755 m in the route of the Tangent. The underground part is given the name Margaretatunnel, named after Margaret of Austria.

SEE Telecom ensured the implementation of the system designed to allow retransmission of the following services:

• Seven FM channels with emergency break-in feature enabling transmission of an emergency messages in all road traffic tunnels tube.
• Three DAB+ ensemble.
• ASTRID TETRA duplex service channels transmitted in both road tunnel tubes.

The tunnel was officially revealed during an opening ceremony on June 25, 2022.
